Maths Evening

The National Numeracy Stratergy

Introduced in 1998 in response to research, especially in Europe, about increased focus on metal maths work.

There are key differences between the ideas and methods in the numeracy stratergy and previous methods in many schools:

More direct and interactive teaching
More teaching of metal calculation statergies
A new approach to written calculations
Introduction of a 3 part daily mathematics lesson
The National Numeracy stratergy

Reason for parents' evening on maths was in response to the difficulties parents have in helping their children at home- especially when it comes to mental maths and written calculations.

Format for the evening from now:

7:15pm - parents split off in to chosen age range classrooms to hear and see a demonstration of key issues for maths in that year group.

7:30pm - demonstrations will finish and there will be a 15 minute break for parents to ask questions, or make their next chosen classroom.

7:45pm - Teachers will repeat their demonstration, allowing parents to see two different age groups.

8:00pm - demonstartions will end - home-time, or the opportunity to ask questions.

Handouts will be available from every classroom.
